Immersing in the Unadulterated Joy of the Steveston Bubbles Event

July 30th, 2024

Photography, for me, is more than just capturing still images. It's about capturing life, emotion, and the very essence of the moment. It's about finding beauty and joy in the mundane, the overlooked, and the ordinary. This principle of mine was recently put to the test when I attended the Steveston Bubbles event at Garry Point for the first time.

I've always believed that bubbles, in their simple and ephemeral nature, carry a certain magic. And as the saying goes, there is no angry way to say bubbles. This event, completely free and supported by a Neighbourhood Small Grant, was all about embracing this magic and the joy it brings. It seemed to me an extraordinary opportunity to find the extraordinary in the everyday.

I had the pleasure of meeting the Founder, Michelle Li, who was as effervescent as the bubbles she was creating. Her passion for what she was doing was evident and infectious. I watched as she brought wonder and happiness to children and adults alike, with her giant, iridescent bubbles floating through the air. It was a sight to behold and a moment to capture.

In that moment, it wasn't just about the bubbles. It was about the smiles on the faces of those watching, the laughter echoing through the park, and the sense of community that was palpable in the air. It was about witnessing the joy that something as simple as bubbles could bring to people.

The event was a testament to the diversity and unity of the neighbourhood, with everyone welcome to participate or watch. It was a reminder to always explore and appreciate the world's diversity, even in our own backyards.

I urge everyone to follow @stevestonbubbles for the next time they are at Garry Point Park. Experience the joy, the community, and of course, the bubbles. And while you're there, take a moment to truly see the beauty around you. After all, photography is not just about capturing what you see, but how you see it.

In the end, it's about finding the extraordinary in the everyday. And sometimes, all it takes is a bubble.
