mcmath wildcats rugby: artistic sports photography capturing movement and emotion

Last week I had the incredible opportunity to capture the McMath Wildcats in action at the South Fraser Kick Off Tournament at South Surrey Athletic Park. As the teams hit the field, the energy was electric — the perfect atmosphere for the kind of sports photography I love to create. But when I step onto the sidelines with my camera, I’m not just there to document the game — I’m there to create art.

For me, sports photography goes beyond the usual action shots. I want my images to tell a story — to freeze those fleeting moments of power, grace, and emotion in a way that feels almost like a portrait. The intensity in a player’s eyes, the split-second leap into the air, the determination etched into every muscle — these are the elements I look for. The more movement frozen in time, the better. There’s something magical about capturing that perfect, mid-action frame where everything comes together — the light, the motion, the expression — creating an image that stands out from typical sports photos.

As we look ahead to the Spring Rugby season, I can’t wait to see the McMath Wildcats back on the field. Their passion and drive make them incredible subjects, and I’m excited for the chance to keep pushing my vision of sports photography with a twist of art. If you’re a parent of an athlete, a player, or just someone who loves the beauty of the game, I’d love to work with you.

Let’s create something unforgettable. Reach out today to book a sports portrait session — because these moments deserve to be captured with creativity and heart.
